I headed to the Salève Mountain today and hiked the “geology circuit”. The trail started in a forested area below the 1,379m limestone mountain and eventually climbed to the cliffs above in which caves and other interesting formations are carved. Paragliders filled to sky and swooped around in the light breeze as I followed the trail at the base of the limestone cliffs. I passed their launching platform on top of the mountain and watched a few people glide off the edge of the cliff before taking a téléphérique back down. What made this hike great for me was that:
- It was accessible via public transportation from Geneva
- The trails were well marked
- There were plenty of options to choose from
- The trails didn’t feel crowded although there were quite a few people out there
