The East Fjords

Iceland Roadtrip Part 2: Hofn to Seydisfjordur

From Hofn we continued to make our way east to Seydisfjordur, a charming town nestled at the end of a fjord on the east coast of Iceland. To get there we drove along ocean side cliffs and fjords, literally over and through mountains, and through Iceland’s most important forest: an 18km stretch of sparsely wooded land. We cozied up in a charming hostel overlooking the harbor, drank wine, feasted on fresh lobster we bought back in Hofn from our new friend Gunar the fisherman, and composed a haiku.

Three friends in Iceland,
We devour lobster tails,
Now we will drink wine!

Highlights from driving along the east fjords

  • Black sand dunes by the Vesturhorn mountains
  • All the beautiful scenery along this winding stretch of highway
